This warrior is always represented with his face painted bright red, a long beard and his guan dao (spear-like sword) in his hand. In the present day, Guan Yu is still as popular and as powerful a figure as ever. For that reason, traditional Chinese martial arts fighters continue to show respect for this renowned protector.
